Oh. My. God. I cannot say enough about this place. Authentic Mexican food, served super fast for under $10 a person in most cases. If you're hankering for the REAL thing, check this place out.

Just an awesome little place to nosh on Cherokee St. One of my favorites for lunch. Try the tacos (any of them) or the torta. The margarita is pretty solid as well.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. They say if you want authentic food, go where the people of that country go. And let me tell you, there's always Mexicans up in here. I try to order something new every time I come here, and I'm never disappointed with whatever I end up with. Their cow tongue tacos are delicious if you're feeling adventurous. They do not try to cushion the heat for Americans here. If you're sensitive to piquant food, make sure to tell your waiter this before ordering. Do try one of their in-house drinks that can be spotted at the bar; I think it changes on a daily basis, but ask about it. I love the horchata and tamarind ones. Oh yeah, their bar! Looks like they've got a good variety of tequilas over there if you wanna turn up. Bottom line: El Bronco is the bee's knees. It's so affordable. Skip Taco Bell for a night, and head here for some authentic goodness.

Taqueria El Bronco is a real street taco joint. Located on the fabulous, culture filled Cherokee Street, Bronco is the epitome of real Mexican food (as far as St. Louis can handle anyway!). I had three tacos: al pastor, lengua (beef tongue) and carnita. Carnita is Spanish for little meats. This cut is usually pork shoulder that is slow cooked in it's own fats and then flash fried for a tender and crispy combination. Lengua is another popular Mexican meat, yes, it is tongue, but you can hardly tell from appearances. It basically looks like small pieces of tender cooked beef. As much as I know about lengua and carnitas, I am sad to report I couldn't identify one from the other. The al pastor, on the other hand, was fantastic. Super tender and flavorful pieces of pork cooked in juice (usually pineapple and/ or orange). I was super impressed by this taco and wish I had ordered three more! I ordered a carne asada taco for my little one, but she wasn't feeling adventurous. In the end, I ate her taco too. The meat was nice, tender and flavorful. I almost forgot the best part: a michelada. I can not express how important it is for St. Louisan's to get on the band wagon with this beer cocktail. I am always surprised how few people know about the michelada. Considered the hangover cure in Mexico, the michelada has over a dozen different recipes that consist mainly of lager, Clamato (or bloody mary mix), citrus (lemon or lime) and salsa ingles (Worchestershire). Poured over ice with a salt rim... this is a party!!! Taqueria El Bronco makes the best Michelada I've found in St. Louis. Make sure to give it a try.

I love this place! The fish tacos, shrimp fajitas and horchata are very good. Very affordable for a family of five! A must go to place when we are over by Cherokee.

FIVE STAR FOOD in a two star restaurant. The atmosphere is great IF you love watching sports while you eat. There are at least a half dozen TVs staring at you from every direction. The tables and chairs are rickety and worn. Décor is forgettable. BUT The food is TOP SHELF! This is the finest Mexican food in the region. The food is served hot and fresh. Service is efficient and friendly. So, When your meal arrives, close your eyes (and maybe plug your ears), imagine white tablecloths, and waiters in tails. Then be amazed by an exceptional meal.

Viva la taco! After lots of stars and hype on yelp I knew I had to go try this out for myself. It isn't a flashy place with lights or signs drawing you to the door, but when you walk in, you can tell it's the real deal. Mexican soccer game on the TVs and an english/spanish menu...yep, I'm in the right spot. I went with the two taco lunch special ($5.99!) soft corn shells with chorizo. There are things in life that you smile inwardly at yourself for and say, "you're so smart"...this was one of those times. The tacos are small, but I like that--you get four shells, rice with peas, and refried beans--these portions had me walking out saying I was stuffed, but in the best way. All of the flavors were perfect, the chorizo was cooked just right and had that nice inviting spice that I love. The shells themselves were warm and not brittle in the least bit. Our salsa (the green salsa gives a swift kick to your taste buds) was good too, I couldn't stop eating it (I would have just eaten it with a spoon if I didn't think I'd of been judged!) My bill totaled all of $6.08 and I was in shock that my little plate of perfect wasn't gonna break my bank. Pleased as punch.

I am so glad I found this place. Their food is so authentic and delicious. the waiters and waitresses are all very nice. Dinner and drinks for two is often $20. They are consistent. Thank you, Taqueria El Bronco, for existing.

I've eaten my share of 'Americanized" Mexican food, so to actually go to an authentic Mexican restaurant was a delightful treat. we have some friends that frequent the Mexican restaurant district near our neighborhood, and I had been wanting to try a few of the places myself but had never gotten around to it till last night. The Service was good, once we sat down the waitress was immediately at our table getting our order, I ordered 3 Tacos de Carne Asada, and they were delicious! just enough seasoning and the tortillas weren't too dry and some good flavor. we were given 2 different kinds of salsa, a hot red salsa, and a salsa verde which I am not too big of a fan of, however the red was very flavorful, and had just enough of a heat kick to be noticeable without being to overpowering. The prices for food were dirt cheap which was also another nice addition to the meal, helping to make this a very enjoyable dining experience. Will I return here for another meal and experience? you bet, it was tasty and very enjoyable..

Chips and queso, $5.99 grande margaritas, amazing quesadillas, and my personal fave here is their tacos. Of all the restaurants down Cherokee street try this one. It won't let you down!

After visiting the budweiser brewery it was time for late lunch and that is when we visited this local taqueria.. The inside decor. .. I don't think there was any .. Was like any other average taqueria ...we ordered chicken and a veggie quesadilla ...the veggie had sautéed onions and Zucchini Pico de gallo . It had a very good taste .. The sautéed onions improved the flavors ..the green salsa in the restaurant had a spice level much higher and added to the zest .. Overall a good place to have lunch if you don't care much about surrounding ambience .,,,

This is my favorite mexican place on Cherokee street. I had a great chimichanga and standard rice and beans. The salsa was really nice - spicy with plenty of fresh cilantro. The bf had a fajita plate which I tasted - great, fresh, delicious.

  • Monica T.

YUM! Veggie tostadas are amazing. Their salsa is consistant and delicious. The place is clean, waiters are great, and food comes quickly. My boyfriend loves the steak and egg dish (recommended by our waiter). Brought friends here and now they are hooked too. I want the world to know about this hidden gem.

Maybe I didn't order the right thing, but this place was nothing to write to your mother about. I mean, you should write to your mother anyways, but assuming you don't include details of every restaurant outing in your letter, leave Taqueria El Bronco out of it. To be fair, the service was fast and exceptionally friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable and vibrant (although the decor was pretty bare-bones mexican cafeteria-esque). My food just didn't hit the spot, and I'm usually pretty generous with my opinion on burritos (as a rule, I generally enjoy anything that comes wrapped in a tortilla). The experience might be a little better if you're a meat eater, so don't let my less-than-glowing review deter you from trying this place; while it's not a game-changing restaurant, it's certainly not bad.

I came here for the first time last night. We were seated as soon as we walked in through the doors, and the chips and salsa came so quickly that I hadn't even gotten the chance to open the menu by the time people started devouring them. I had an ice cold horchata with my Carnitas Burrito Platter. The burrito was delicious with an ample amount of tender pork carnitas. I only wish that the platter came with a little more rice and beans. I also tasted a bite of someone's a dollar fifty Tripe Taco, which I thought had an interesting flavor...sorry, can't elaborate much here because this was my first, but it wasn't bad! Until today, I had always frequented La Vallesana whenever I craved for Mexican food on Cherokee street. Given that Taqueria has similar quality food and in my opinion, much better service than La Vallesana, I am definitely going to come here more often!

Lunch on 7/21/14 was very good. Quickly we were seated and brought complimentary chips and salsa - just the standard red and green. We shared a torta and a quesadilla. The Torta al Pastor was delicious with the pork the highlight. The layers of flavors are outstanding and the bread soft and fresh. The sandwich is so huge that we didn't even touch the french fries. The chicken quesadilla was overstuffed with tasty chicken and buttery Chihuahua cheese. An ice cold Pacifico was just right. Service was fast and friendly and prices fair - not the bargain that Cherokee street was a few years ago but fair. The dining space is simple but clean, and they were bustling during the lunch period. Would definitely go again.

A friend suggested we go here for tacos (instead of the hipster taco joint on Delmar) and I was pleasantly surprised. Our group ordered about 20 tacos, a mixture of carne asana, el pastor, and chicken, they were all delicious. The service was a bit slow, but I will definitely be back!

  • Jessica M.

This place makes me hate Boston because they do tripe and lengua right. This is probably the best, most authentic Mexican food I've had. What do we have...Anna's Taqueria. Fuck.

  • Jared K.

Love this place. I always stop by when in St. Louis. I always get a few tacos(beef and al pastor being the best), and then something else. The menudo is good, although I prefer mine with Hominy. Chips and salsa are always fantastic, great amount of heat in the green. The tacos are straight up legit. Great beer prices(2.50), but not the best neighborhood. Go during the day and you are fine.

I had no idea this little bitty place existed! My world has been changed. First I have to remind you that I'm a central Texas girl so my view on Mexican food has a Tex-Mex flare (meaning I expect everything to have more cheese). For Mexican (Texas, Ca or otherwise) this place was yummy! and authentic! I got to catch up on my Spanish soaps. Started with some sopas and guac. Sopas were much larger than I expected and was told, but good. Crispy with a good ratio of meat to fixings. The pork was far better than the chicken. Then on to steak Alambre. Drenched in cheese with the perfect blend of spice and seasoning. I'm drooling again. The white corn tortillas were delicate and didn't have that dreaded brick to the stomach feel. No frills authentic Mexican.

  • Kevin D.

We really enjoyed this place. It's very small, casual, and local - just what we like. Mexican music videos playing on the TVs, nice service. If you're used to only eating at Americanized Mexican restaurants (like Hacienda or Chuy's), you should check this place out for a more authentic Mexican experience. Food is simple, fresh and inexpensive. One warning - the Mexican steak is VERY spicy! We will definitely be back.

This place has quickly become my go-to spot for a quick bite on Cherokee. The servers are attentive, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is consistently delicious. Also, as an extra bonus for me, they don't have a specific vegetarian menu, instead they say that they can make you a veggie version of a number of standard menu items. This is pleasant considering I just tried a place on the opposite corner that only offered 3 veggie menu items. Anyway, they offer 2 types of salsa standardly with their chips, one being more spicy than the other, and have a number of hot sauces on the table for you to add at will. Decent and fairly priced tequila selection and the family sized Coronas are also a definite plus! On the weekends that also have Posole & Menudo (if that's your weakness) so stop in and give this spot a whirl!

Yep. It's worthy of five stars. I am moving back to STL from years in Vegas and Texas. One thing I acquired on my time away is a taste for good Mexican food. I was happy to find this place on Yelp - it more than satisfied my craving for some authentic cuisine. The place is clean and the service is friendly. The food is amazing. I had al pastor enchiladas topped with red sauce. They were the best enchiladas I've ever had. The chips and salsa were very satisfying, but beware - the green salsa is HOTHOTHOT! My fiancé and I gobbled up our plates and couldn't find one single thing that was less than completely heavenly. The price is right and the food is fantastic. Give it a try!

Came here yesterday wanting to get a good "real" Mexican taco. There are so many restaurants on Cherokee street and I have yet for one to fail me. I ordered a fish taco and two al pastor tacos to go. Their green and red sauce were both really good. FYI: The green was pretty spicy and different then I have ever had before. For all of that I spent $5.70 plus a tip. You can't even go to McDonalds for that. I can't wait to come back to this place.

Reading all the great reviews, I am bummed I didn't have a better experience. I live close, so will be back to try again. First, I ordered a chelada, which is just lime, beer, and salt. I got a Michelada with tomato juice and Worcestershire as well. I'm not a fan of this drink, so I asked them to redo. They didn't understand what the mix up was, so I just went with a margarita. House margaritas are pretty good, not great. They do use a mix of fresh ingredients with bottled sweet & sour. I enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa, but the salsas are hot! The house guac was also very tasty. For dinner, I ordered camarones al ajo- shrimp and garlic. I received camarones al diablo- shrimp and jalapenos. I went ahead and just kept it as I do like jalapeno, but after the drink mix up and the heat of the salsa, I had been looking forward to getting my correct entree. BF had tacos al pastor, which I tried. Good flavor, but the meat was a bit dry and he concurred. My friends liked their entrees, but said they thought Neveria Vallesana a block down was even better. It was a very reasonably priced meal, and I like to simple vibe with soccer matches playing and many Hispanic and Latino locals.

El Bronco offers a real Mexican feel. The food is authentic and the prices are cheap. The service might be slower, but it reminded me of when I was in Mexico. I would say embrace the pace and enjoy the food

There should be no other place in St.louis to eat but here. This place we call The Bronco.. Is the best of the best. Do your tummy a favor and go! Prices are right and the food is beyond exceptional!

So far this place has the best Mexican food I've found in St. Louis. Coming from LA where great mexican food is plentiful i was disappointed in several places, but this place made up for it. Their new green salsa is also great! I generally like asada and al pastor the most and I'm not used to seeing pineapple in al pastor, but after picking them out i was very happy with both.

  • Sarah M.

Legit. That is one word to describe this place. Authentic Mexican food that keeps you coming back. We have been going here for two and half years now and I am ashamed I haven't reviewed this place yet. The tacos are the best I have had outside of Mexico, for reals. I always get the fish tacos but the chorizo is my second favorite. You know a taco is authentic when it is simple. Meat/fish with onion and cilantro and a radish. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Other menu items are good too (tostada, burrito, etc.) but it is so hard to go there and not get the tacos. They are THAT good.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis! I started going to El Bronco when I was at SLU and have yet to find a better place to get simple, authentic Mexican food. I have to admit that even after several years of eating at El Bronco I've only tried the tacos....they're too good to pass up! My favorites are the fish, chicken and chorizo tacos. The tacos are super simple, no crazy sauces or toppings but the ingredients are fresh and always delicious. The staff is always friendly and the tacos are always spot on plus it's so reasonably priced!

As authentic as it gets, no frills, unpretentious atmosphere. Excellent food at excellent prices. Great tacos el pastor.

I went to Cherokee to knock off a restaurant on Angelo's must try list. I intended to go to El Torito but ended up in El Bronco instead. Either way, I hadn't tried this place so I figured I'd give it a shot. Service is good. The family that runs this place was all sitting at the booth closest to the kitchen. They all took turns waiting on us. This place is small with a handful of booths, and the usual Univision telenovelas playing on the two TV's. The menu is small, and not that diverse... it included about 15 or so standard dishes. We tried the beef torta and alambra. The torta was good, not great. I've had better. The alambra was decent... basically it tasted like cheesy fajitas. They serve everything with chips and salsa... two kinds, verde (hot) and the standard red. The green salsa didn't really taste like anything. Overall, I was happy with my meal but will continue trying other places as this was just middle of the road for me.

This was our first attempt at Mexican on Cherokee. Let me start by saying the salsa was delicious, especially the verde. I could have filled up on that alone! We had tacos and a burrito. Both were good, but the rice/beans were just ok. The other great part about this place is that we walked out of there for under $20, including tip!

Nothing's better than a good taco. Well, maybe pizza. My lifelong search for good tacos al pastor never ends. Today I found myself at Taqueria El Bronco. The good: -Inexpensive, delicious tacos. -Attentive and quick service. -Mexican cokes. -Complimentary chips and salsa. The okay: -Menu format was way more complicated than it needed to be. -The red and green salsas brought out for the chips aren't quite good enough for tacos. Solid place. I'll definitely be back.

Really enjoyed my meal Here. The service was really good and my margarita was excellent. Very typical atmosphere for the Cherokee Street restaurants, but not complaining. Dinner was good priced. Will definitely go back..

This is a great place for traditional Mexican food on Cherokee Street. I had the tacos el pastor and the lingua (tongue) taco- both were excellent! Not a fan of the margaritas - too heavy on the sour mix. No frills just tasty food.

The new Taqueria El Bronco rocks. We stopped in for a quick lunch and were so pleasantly surprised. They had multiple agua fresca flavors, which makes me a very happy girl. I went with the watermelon and was not disappointed. I ordered two tacos and they were amazing. The carnitas were very possibly the best that I have ever had and the al pastor was most definitely the best. I also had to get some guacamole and it was pretty tasty as well. Not the best I have ever had, but when you have an addiction like I do, you can't be too picky. :) The service was quick, although I think our server was the only one working, so he always looked panicked, like he had something else he should be doing. I will most definitely be back to Taqueria El Bronco.

OMG, I finally found a place that has the right amount of food that I can eat at one sitting & is cheap! Hello, I love you Taqueria El Bronco! I thought such places existed overseas! The food was delish & quite fresh. The salsa & guacamole was off the hook. I came here with my mom & bf. My mom got the tacos, & they looked delish! My bf's fajitas looked delish as well. The meat didn't have a kick to it. Not even a tiny kick! My steak & shrimp was good, but the steak & shrimp also didn't have a kick. It was a bit bland. Maybe they Americanized it or maybe that's how it tastes in Mexico. The bottles of hot sauce were on each table, but still I wish there was a tiny bit of chili powder in the food. The menu is limited, & you gotta order fast. From what I can recall, they didn't have any desserts.

It was 103 degrees and La Vallesana was bumping, so Erika K and I ventured to the new location of Taqueria El Bronco for lunch. They completely redid the inside. I had been to the restaurant before it and it was pretty ratty. The new bar and expanded seating look decent, but kind of sparse. The food was really good though. I think they expanded their menu with the move. The salsa is pretty standard, and the chips are thick and crisp. I had carnitas enchiladas and they were outstanding. The carnitas were a little different than usual. They weren't just fried pork, they had the traditional orange peel along with it. This permeates the meat and makes it delicious. The rice and beans are pretty standard. Erika K really liked the agua frescas as per usual and her tacos were really good. A return trip is most definitely happening in the future.

I visited this place after a visit to the Budweiser Brewery, and it was fantastic! I will definitely be back. The salsa is super spicy, I could barely eat it, but the chips were fantastic. When the server heard the salsa was too spicy for us he brought out an avocado salsa, which was tasty, but still too spicy! Ha! Oh well, he tried! My friend and I ordered the guacamole and queso, which were both delicious. We also shared a steak quesadilla. It came with the guac some pico, and sour cream. It was really fine. She had a steak taco and said it was great. I tried the chicken taco and it was not nearly as good as the quesadilla, not even close. Our whole meal came to about $18. That can't be beat.

We were looking to try one of the many restaurants down on Cherokee St that we've been talking about trying forever on Saturday night and El Bronco made the top of the list. They quickly brought out a basket of chips and two types of salsa, a red, more traditional one that was mild and a green salsa that was hot. In all my years of eating Mexican food, growing up in the Southwest, I've never had anything like the green salsa they served. The jury is still out on that salsa, but it was different that is for sure. We started off with a few sopas, two pork and two chicken. When we asked our waitress how big they were she made them seem pretty small so we ordered four, when the arrived they were pretty big, we could have canceled our entree order and been just fine, but instead we asked for a to go box. The sopas were sopapias with re-fried beans, chicken or pork, lettuce, tomato cheese and were quite tasty. I was definitely a fan of the pork more than the chicken, not to say the chicken was bad, just the pork was really, really good. For my entree I went with the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. if you like sour cream you are in luck as the dish comes with a generous helping of it on top. Being my forgetful self I forgot to ask for no sour cream and had to scrape it off, but that was my fault. The chicken was the same as the sopas and honestly it reminded me a bit of a tamale instead of an enchilada, but it was good none the less. I tasted some of the steak from Stephanie's dish and I will say that the pork and the steak are really, really good and next time we go I will order whatever with either pork or steak. All in all, I'm really glad we made it down here for dinner. It's been on the to do list for at least eight months, glad we can finally cross that one off. On to the next!

Goodbye El Magueys ~ I have found better, more authentic food, for less! Taqueria El Bronco is a no frills eatery with a simple menu and delicious food that I have been craving since I finished my last meal there... Lunch for 2: $11.00 -- What can you buy for $11 these days? Taqueria El Bronco is a new favorite of mine....I'll see you there!

  • Julia W.

I feel bad not giving Taqueria El Bronco a higher rating. The food was was good, but it didn't "wow" me by any means. It's definitely a very authentic Mexican taqueria, which I appreciate, but I wasn't the best Mexican food I've ever had. The Salsa was very authentic and tasty, and it definitely reminded me of salsa I've had in Mexico. I had the Steak Quesadillas which were pretty good, but a little too greasy. Like, dripping-on-my-hands, hard-to-pick-up greasy. I was also disappointed that the cheese was mozzarella...for being such an authentic establishment I would have expected Mexican cheeses. While we were eating, we noticed another table enjoying Bronco's Shrimp Cocktail, which looked amazing. It's this big, oversized glass/goblet filled with a red sauce with cilantro, avocados and shrimp mixed in. Although we were almost finished with our meal, we decided to order one for the table to try it. The cocktail was alright, but DEFINITELY not what I expected. The tomato sauce was very soupy and sweet...almost too sweet. We all agreed it tasted a lot like a Bloody Mary. And although I love Bloody's, I'm not sure I want Bloody Mary flavored Shrimp. Maybe if I had tried their tacos or Alambras (what appeared to be more of their specialty), I would enjoyed my meal more. But next time I go down to Cherokee, I'll probably try another place. I'm not Taqueria El Bronco earned a second visit from me.

The only Mexican place i've been to in this state that actually tasted like real mexican food! Other places here don't seem to add up correctly. I tried this place out in January after being in the state for a couple weeks and was severely craving some trad. mex. Had the enchiladas, and the only complaint when I ordered the 3 was I had to order beans and rice as a side. It was too much food for me to complete. Should have ordered the burrito thing my counterpart had, looked more like my portion of food. Will definitely hit this place back up when I am around again.

I am a huge fan of traditional Mexican food and this place is right on the money. Choosing from the menu was difficult, as I spotted a number of items that were appealing. As this was my first visit I went with the tampiquena and a couple of different tacos (the family was there to help). Everything ordered was delicious. The service was friendly and the place was clean.

I'm about to sound like a real tool for saying this, but when I walk up into a Mexican restaurant and it's full of gringos, I prep for a watered down flavorless meal. Gringos just want neverending chips and salsa and a plate full of so much food that they have to be rolled out of the restaurant in a wheelbarrow. I cannot give you a factual report on this, but I know it's true. There are always Mexicans eating at El Bronco because it's DELICIOUSx10. The menu is the front of one page. It's small but it gets to the point. The pork enchiladas are FREAKIN AMAZING. The quesadillas are good too (reeeeally flavorful which i don't often find in a quesadilla). They serve you two kinds of salsa with your complementary chips, AND they have booze (there are some places on Cherokee that serve neither). 20 bucks will get you two heaping plates of food, a marg, and a beer. The service is really fast, and you can watch sweet spanish soap operas while you're eating. If you haven't eaten here, I really do feel quite sorry for you, because you are definitely missing out. viva el bronco!

Great food, probably the best Mexican food I've had in St. Louis. The burritos were excellent and the price can't be beat. The guacamole is great too and is included with almost every meal. The one problem that I did have with the experience is that all of the indoor seating is bar-style. It's kind of strange because there's an empty floor in the restaurant that could definitely fit some tables but none are there. But that's just a minor quibble about an otherwise great restaurant.

Dear heaven above you have answered my Mexican food prayers. I'm no expert regarding Mexican food, however my taste buds very happy after this meal! Taqueria El Bronco needs to move it's restaurant into my kitchen so I can eat here everyday. My goodness I was so full when I left I thought I was going to burst. Chips and salsa we brought to our table fast. Good thing because I was hungry! The salsa was so awesome. The green salsa was too hot for me, but tasted so good. I was on fire after a few chips. My boyfriend ate almost the whole bowl. I guess you could say he LOVED it. The red salsa was more my style. I dipped my chip into the green and then scooped the red. A match made in heaven! We ordered the steak quesadilla and the chicken burrito and then shared. The steak quesadilla was awesome. The steak had no stingy parts and there was the perfect amount of cheese which might be too much for some people, but was just right for me. Along side came sour cream (yes!), fresh guac (double yes!) and the best pico de gallo I've ever eaten in my life. I wished I didn't agree to share. After I inhaled my half of the quesadilla I moved onto the chicken burrito which was also yummy. The burrito was filled with lots of chicken that was flavorful (unlike other places I've tried), guac, sour cream, lettuce and rice. (I could be missing something here) I was soooooo full after I ate my half. Alongside the burrito came beans and rice. I shoveled more chips with the leftover beans and rice with the salsa. Jesus, I was so full, but I couldn't stop. After lunch my boyfriend realized there was horchata. Sweet mother of rice milk and cinnamon goodness. I'm not sure how lived before I ate here. You should try this place, it's for real. The service was good and the place was full. The thing I like best about El Bronco is that there were Mexican people working and eating here. You know this place will knock your socks off. Don't look for a posh space to eat, the place is a little "let go", but that didn't bother me, the food is all that matters.

Have you ever seen the episode of Kids in the Hall in which Bruce Mcculloch plays a teenage kid that repetitively professes to his mom "This is a f***in' good ham"? Or something like that. Well, that was pretty much my reaction to the burrito I had at El Bronco. I've recently heard a lot about how this place is good, and if you haven't seen it, you should check out the write-up in Sauce about the Mexican places on Cherokee Street. Actually, I'm pretty sure that the obnoxious group of girls at the table next to mine probably had just gotten off work and read about the place in Sauce. The chips came out with a regular salsa and a verde salsa, and I'm always, always happy about more than one choice of salsa, especially when one is good and spicy. We also got a side of guacamole that was very fresh and very tasty. The menu doesn't have a giant selection on it, so we asked if we could get the burritos without meat. Not only did our very friendly server say yes, he suggested getting it with vegetables instead. When we got our burritos, they were pretty large (half is in my fridge maybe because I had too many chips) and filled with yellow squash, mushrooms, and other veggies. Pretty great. It was one of the best burritos I've had at a restaurant in quite a while. I had a Negra Modelo with it. Their bottled beer selection is a pretty good range of Mexican beers (and maybe Budweiser). The prices are pretty good and I will surely go back soon.

Are there a ton of places like this on Cherokee Street? Yes. Are they all delicious? Yes. El Bronco remains my favorite not only because of the fantastic flavors they impart into their addictive tacos, but the owners are just great people. And those tacos are delicious. I have to admit I haven't given the menu a full workout, mostly because I always end up ordering combinations of beef, pork leg, and chorizo tacos. Whoever it was at Qdoba that came up with "Street Tacos" should, first, be ashamed of himself, and second, be force-fed chorizo tacos from El Bronco. But really that's more of a treat than punishment. Homemade salsas and horchata are also delicious. Mexican cokes and Mexican beers cold and ready to go.

I have been going here ever since it opened up. I would have to say there is no negative for being "too far." Well for me it is in the center of the Universe. Fresh salsa, green and red. The green has avocado in it, and it is only served when the avocados are good. I appreciate the simple menu- the more americanized joints tend to have too complex of a combinations to know what you want. I always order light for the food is potent and filling. Yes, the sopes is awesome. I get all of the above, steak, pollo, chorizo and lengua. All the food is good, and occasionally they do amazing specials. This is real Mexican peasant food- simple, fresh and real. Would add more, but I gotta go!

Three of us visited this taqueria in search of some authentic Mexican in St Louis. We had read a review in Sauce Magazine that touted the tortas. To be honest, we were underwhelmed but not so much that we won't give it another try. I have eaten tacos on the streets and in taquerias in Mexico City and several other Mexican cities (not the tourist traps). I know what they can be. This is not quite it, but I will give it another chance. Now I'm a tortilla de maiz guy but Ms T ordered a torta because of the raves in Sauce Mag. It really was disappointing. The pork was uninspired and a little short in quantity. It just did not have that knee-buckling goodness that great homemade puerco can have. The rave reviews in Sauce were not representative of what we experienced. Maybe el Bronco knew they were being reviewed. I was delighted to see an offering of alhambre de res. It is one of my favorites and one that I make at home frequently. Again, it was uninspired, just some carne asada with some onions and bacon and horror of horrors; bell peppers instead of nice, fresh chile poblano. It did not have that great flavor that comes from a good hot comal. No salt and the carne was almost more steamed. I do remember that the guacamole was very fresh and good. It was chunky and not over seasoned, very typical of what I have experienced in Mexico. I really wanted to love this place. It is small, family run, and is the kind of place that I like to patronize. For that reason, I will give it more tries. It is a long drive for us, but maybe next time will click. I really want to raise the rating. For now my three stars are generous.

Authentic Mexican food right around the corner from where I live and work. Excellent service, always with a smile. Chips and salsa are delicious to start, I generally go with some form of Tacos or Enchiladas. Always have a great lunch special, and Margaritas are spot on. This is easily my favorite restaurant on Cherokee street. With so many to choose from within a small area on Cherokee street I'd say you'll rarely go wrong stopping by here.

LIving on Cherokee allows me to eat at one of the many Mexican places at least a couple times a week. I know them all. El Bronco in my opinion is the best. Their food is authentic and delicious, they make it quickly and get it to your table hot (think lunch hour), and the service has always been reliably friendly. The only 2 other places on Cherokee that have equally good food do not serve alcohol. For me, Mexican cuisine is just not the same without a red beer or a margarita. Very good bang for the buck Mexican in an area that has a lot of choices. The places next door and across the street are fine, just no booze and not quite as good IMHO.

Good to great tacos. The menu is a little cryptic -- e.g. marinated pork means el pastor (and is extremely tasty). There's also the option of ordering anything with meat in it vegetarian-style (which is not on the menu at all); this probably changes a bit from day to day but it's something like sauteed peppers and squash, sliced avocado, and queso fresco (quesa fresca? unclear). Salsas are not that great, but the green one at least is pretty spicy. Beers are available.

First off, I gave this restaurant a 5 star rating because in my 4 years here in St. Louis this is hands down the best Mexican food I've had here. Coming from Houston and being Mexican-American, I have to say this taqueria definitely makes me feel at home. The atmosphere is friendly and I love that I can hear some actual Tejano music while I enjoy my meal. Also, the service is outstanding seeing as the owner truly cares about making his customers feel welcome and happy. I've had a little bit of everything here (sopes, tortas, tacos, the "Alambre") and I have to say the one thing that keeps me coming back are the tortas they serve here. Just the right amount of everything you need and it reminds me of a similar one I had in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. Another great reason to come here is they serve delicious horchata that is especially hard to come by up here. As others have said, their red and green salsas are always fresh and have a tone of flavor. If you're lucky enough as I have been, the owner might even bring out a tomatillo chipotle salsa that is a nice change of pace compared to the other two standard salsas served. All in all, it's a hidden treasure that everyone should enjoy at least once while in St. Louis.

If this weren't the midwest, I may consider a lower rating, but for a St. Louis area authentic Mexican place, it's pretty damn close. I've been to Mexico on multiple occasions, and I ALWAYS crave the food when I get back. Sadly, I was always bummed when I tried to replicate it myself, or find the next "authentic" place that served cilantro and lime tacos, carne asada steak, or real sopes. You know, the kind of Mexican joint that gives you a puzzled look, and wonders WTF IS THAT, when you try to order nachos. The service is almost as good as the food. We're always treated kindly, and made to feel welcome when we enter. It's a great Taqueria environment, and I highly recommend it.

I have been coming here since they were in their tiny space across the street. The shrimp quesadilla is my favorite while my boyfriend opts for the traditional tacos. It has been awhile since they brought out their amazing spicy green sauce - not the tomatillo salsa but a creamy light green sauce that seems to be made from avocado, jalapenos and maybe tomatillo. They told me once that they only make it if the avocados are up to snuff. Owners are friendly and the food is great. Hopefully the green sauce will be back soon since it's my favorite part.

Definitely a taqueria, you know that before you walk in the door. I love me some taquerias and have no problem with the dirty places. Food was pretty good, not great, but pretty good. I would give it a 3 1/2 if I could.

I love the tacos and the burritos. Really, everything I've tried I like. It's one of my favorite lunch spots in the city. They have the best tortillas in town and that makes all the difference. It's not fancy - in fact it's decidedly plain when it comes to the decor, but you don't go for the ambiance, it's all about the food. And the cane sugar Coke.

Can't beat the prices here. I was down in town with my boss and we stopped here for lunch. For $17 we got some awesome authentic tacos with beans and rice and some freshly made guacamole. They also make their own chips and it comes with some pretty spicy salsa that's not too bad. Overall, a great stop if you want a delightful lunch on the cheap.

They have the best tacos around. Nothing like an authentic Mexican taco with a little bit of lime squeezed on it. YUMMY! and very good prices. for about $5-6 two tacos and a Pepsi. Nice people that own the place too!

By far my favorite Mexican in the city! Pastor tacos! Even as a vegetarian, they are worth eating.

When I first moved away from California, I pined for places like this. I was always seeking out Taquerias and never found any that brought me back to the delicious feeling of chowing down on a chorizo burrito like I used to in San Jose. Then I stumbled in here one afternoon while out with my cousin hitting the antique stores nearby. MY OH MY I finally found my delicious taqueria food and thank the lord I have. This place is totally authentic, or at least as authentic as you will get in our fare city. The TV is actually playing Mexican TV. Not that I speak of lick of Spanish, but just having that on brings me right back to California. The tacos are fresh and filled with delicious flavorful ingredients. They fill then with steak but will leave it off if you ask and then you really end up with a lot of lettuce, hey that's alright. The service was awesome too, everyone was very nice and quick to serve you and move the line along. The place is not huge, but what good Taqueria is, I ask you? The horchata was decent, but I have had better, sometimes it is better than others so if you want to take a chance and you are feeling bold, I say hey, why not. If you want real Mexican food and not Taco Bell or Chipotle or those other knock off burrito places, this is place to check out.

Still awesome, but I've noticed that they don't have cabeza on the English menu. Tender, slightly spicy, in some great sauce and a little fatty...delicious. Take a leap of faith and order at least one cabeza taco.

Mmmm. Reminds me of the little taquierias all over Isla Mujeres, the best vacation spot in Mexico. The pork enchiladas are delicious--pineapple really brings out the flavors. Great service, authentic food.

As close as you can get to a CALIFORNIA-STYLE CARNE ASADA BURRITO in STL. I can't tell you how many places I've been to in St. Louis looking for authentic Mexican food. I was about to give up on my quest for a California-style carne asada burrito, but then I ran into someone at the airport who suggested El Bronco. I decided to give it one last shot and am so glad that I did. This place is the real deal - thin carne asada steak filled the burrito and they made it just the way I wanted it - no beans and rice and all that filler, they just packed it with well-seasoned steak, cilantro, onions and guacamole. It wasn't as good as the taco stands I was used to when I lived in San Diego, but as close as you'll get in St. Louis. I tried the shrimp cocktail too - and it was real shrimp cocktail, not that tomato-based garbage that so many other places try to pass off as authentic (e.g. Tower Taco). If you like Hacienda and places like that, you might want to stay in the suburbs - this place is for true fans of Mexican food. I will definitely be a regular.

Pros: delicious tacos, very friendly service, mexican TV Cons: too far, man, limited menu, neighborhood can be shady for some sub-urbanites. First off, I am mexican, my mother was born there and I grew up eating the best mexican food from my grandmother and mother. This place reminded me of going to mexico and eating the very delicious tacos that I remembered getting in Mexicao . Mind you, these are not the gringo staple of Old El Paso, no sir-ee, no ground beef here, just fresh corn tacos filled with grilled, sliced steak. Splash a bit of Limon, wash it down with a Negra Modelo, and - "it's all good". This day they had the most tender, and succulent pork carnitas. Three words to describe: FAB U LOUS. (just had to put that in there, sorry) You must try also the sopes - we had the pollo (chicken) very yummy. Service was very friendly. Don't bother with the horchata (rice drink) they put too much almond flavoring in it and it reminded me of something which I care not to describe to you - if you REALLY want to know email me and I will tell you. Overall a great mexican experience, there are a lot more mexican(and other latin american places) places down on cherokee st. I look forward to checking them all out. My only other complaint (yes I know the name of the restaurant is taqueria) is the limited menu - I want: mole, pozole, huitlacoche, sopa de tortilla. anywho if you want to get closer to Mexico - try this place and skip the lame excuse of mexican food such as: Chevy's or that other place in dogtown which the name escapes me at this present moment.

Definitely the most authentic mexican food I've been able to find (so far) in Saint Louis. It may not be exactly what I'm used to from further down south, but it's pretty darn close. The shredded chicken is slow cooked and falling-apart-tender. Everything tasted fresh. Their refried beans are straight up awesome, so mix them into your rice, eat them on a burrito -whatever you do with them, it'll be good. The people working there were also very helpful. I asked for shredded chicken in my chile relleno, and they happily made it for me, which I thought was really nice! The rice is a little unusual for a mexican restaurant, but still really yummy. I highly recommend you stop by here the next time you're in the area, or even that you go out of your way to try it. It's that good!

Authentic Mexican food, 100% delicious. If you want to have a real Mexican dining experience, then come here. Almost all of the customers are Mexican (or Latino/Central American) and they always show TV programs from Mexico... people speak Spanish a lot here. Food is very affordable. Everything is so yummy, including tacos. They also offer authentic Mexican pop sodas here. Whenever I am here, I feel like I'm back home in Mexico. I really love this place.

Delicious, but not "I can't wait to go back ASAP" delicious. I had a tostada, taco, and sope. They were great, served with fresh avocado, lettuce, pico de gallo. Agüitas de watermelon and horchata; both were good but overly sweet. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall, it was good but just wasn't the over-the-top greatness that everyone seems to rave about.

Having been down to Texas, where authentic Mexican food is a dime a dozen, this food was just okay. Definitely not a place you want to go to if you cannot speak at least a little Spanish. The menu will be difficult to manage. I got al Pastor tacos and they were not very flavorful at all. It was as if they forgot the pineapple.

This has officially become our "go to" when we are in the mood for great, inexpensive, authentic Mexican food. Margarita's are the best! The service is usually spot on.. but hey, when they are packed you may need to flag someone down if you need another drink.. you can always go up to the register and they will get your ticket for you. I have 2 issues, neither about the place specifically. 1. The begger outside always asking for money to feed his daughters. I have heard him tell the guy at the bodega next door that he targets women cause they feel sorry for his "daughters" and that he was going to have to find a new location when it got too cold.. and that he was meeting people at "the chinaman" for dinner with his mom. 2. It's a Mexican place with people that speak English as a second language for the most part.. so tell me WHY am I having to listen to a folk band. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE (exaggeration.. more like a lower case love) fold music, but please.. please.. please.. do NOT turn Taqueria El Bronco into "Hipster Mexican". .. steps off soap box.

The good: chips and salsa were the best I've had in a while. The not so good: the food was just ok. The bad bad bad: both my husband and I have had stomach cramping (him one day and me for two days) since eating this food. He felt weird stomach symptoms right away and it took me a day but now it's pretty bad. If that weren't enough, the place was kind of dirty and the service wasn't great. Took a long time. Will definitely not go back.

Good, quick, Mexican food. Very legit. On a street with tough Mexican food competition, this restaurant can hold its own. The margarita's were good too. Not too sour helping with the usual heart burn. The food came out very quickly and had good fresh ingredients.

This is probably my favorite taqueria on Cherokee st. I like that they offer a red and a green salsa with chips; I personally like the slightly spicier green salsa. I strongly recommend getting their guacamole too. My friend remembers this place as the one with the amazing guacamole and for good reason. They have all your Mexican staples-- tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, and more-- and make each one to perfection.

This is the real deal!!! Mexican food the way it is meant to be prepared!! The menu provides a multitude of options to include: seafood stew, fresh whole fish with homemade salsa (fabulous!), street tacos, traditional options, and many more! The aqua Fresca is housemade and delicious... Every dish that I have had has been excellent: full of flavor, large portions, very reasonable pricing, and again, it is the real deal: great and delicious Mexican food!!! There are many Mexican restaurants on Cherokee Street and some of them have a great street appeal, BUT if you want delicious food, this is your place!

My favorite tacos in st louis. I've been going since they were in the tiny spot across the street from where they are now. Phenomenal. Never had a bad meal. I'm gonna leave this review short and just tell you to try for yourself.

  • Sammy S.

What a disappointment. They aim for "authentic" but they have adapted the food to match what they think gringos want. Both salsas were blah. The margarita is made with some artificial mix rather than real limes. Tacos were flavorless. No tamales. No Mole. Those are pretty much the main reasons I go for "authentic" Mex.

    (2)
  • Aimee W.

Big margaritas made with with pre-made mix from the bottle...super cheap though. Good tacos but nothing spectacular. Shrimp cocktail was huge but could have been a bit spicier. Great salsa. Good place for cheap Mexican street food. I lived in El Paso for a time so I might just be a bit hard to please when it comes to Mexican food. Service was fantastic.

Since I just moved to the stl I was nervous I was not going I find a good Mexican joint. I found on yelp this place. I was very happy I came across it! I ordered three tacos ( 2 al pastor and 1 with cow Tounge) these both were the perfect size. The salsa came hot and hotter. Give this place a try next time you want AUTHENTIC Mexican.

Got a veggie and a steak burrito for carry out. Authentic Mexican flavor with a fresh tortilla and variety of fillings, including a bit of guacamole, which is normally seen as an up charge at other establishments. Included with the entree were chips (fresh and crunchy) complemented by 3 salsas with varying degrees of spiciness. Service was fast and friendly, would definitely go again!

Best Mex in STL...period....started going here in 2002 when it was across the street from where it is now(and 1/3 the size)....and they have remained consistent in quality of food and service. Great Food. Great Service. The owner has been there from day 1 and he cares greatly that things go well for his customers.

I love this place. Big fan of their tongue street tacos! It's one of the most tender cuts of meat with fresh heaps of cilantro and onion. I think they slightly grill the tongue cuts which gives it a really nice texture. Also, the salsa with complementary chips packs a punch. I'm so happy they have not watered down the seasoning and spices since gaining popularity. Margaritas is bomb too.

  • R K.

Food is quite good. (the green house salsa is better than the red though). They are very generous with their onions and cilantro, so note that before you order. The place is good for game watching, although the locals don't like it when you root for the road team. Enjoyed my visit there.

Taqueria El Bronco is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant on Cherokee Street. I've tried almost everything on the menu and find it to be consistently good authentic Mexican food. I'm still struggling to find the perfect 5 star Mexican place on Cherokee, but El Bronco is towards the top of the group. There are a few things that I especially like about this place. First of all, the complementary chips come with an excellent red and green salsa. Be warned that these aren't your standard gringo salsas; hold on to your tamale because these fresh made sauces pack some heat, yet have a good flavor. The tacos are also good here and prepared authentic style on corn tortillas and topped with onions and cilantro. I've decided that almost every taco on Cherokee street tastes similar, and it's just random luck as to which restaurants tacos taste better that day. Probably my favorite thing about El Bronco is the atmosphere. It's really a simple place and nothing special, but it seems to be the gathering place of the Mexican community on Cherokee Street. They have a nice bar/counter where you can sit and order, and there is always a soccer game on the televisions. On a recent Sunday night visit, wanting to try something different, I ordered a Cubana Torta. While waiting, I was able to enjoy some of the regular patrons who had had a few too many beers and were singing along with one guy who had brought his guitar with him. Anyway...back to the torta: El Bronco's version came with a milanesa or breaded steak cutlet topped with a split open hot dog and a fried egg along with cheese, lettuce and a jalapeno slice. It wasn't the best torta that I've ever had, but it was fun to try. Next time I'll stick with the al pastor torta. I'm going with 4 stars for Taqueria El Bronco and will continue to return often for the good food and interesting atmosphere.

This was our first trip to Taqueria. The complimentary green salsa with the chips was very good. I had a vegetarian burrito, but it was too juicy and the tortilla was soggy. My partner had beef tacos that were fine and tasty. Unfortunately we both felt the service was poor. Items were missed from our order, our waters were never refilled, and we waited for 5 minutes after our order arrived for napkins and silverware. We really wanted to like this place but we were disappointed.

I love this place!!! Great mexican food for cheap. I always get a tostada and tacos. Everything I have had is delicious. Not to say they make a mean margarita. They have definitely made a lifetime customer out of me.

So much of the same . . . On Black Friday, we chose to wander the Streets of Cherokee to find gifts at local shops, and shopping locally makes me work up an appetite. Therefore, we wanted to try some authentic Mexican. The options never end for Mexican on Cherokee Street, but I wanted a cold brew with my meal. We passed up Neveria La Vallesana because they had no cerveza. However, Taqueria El Bronco had some to offer. I must have rubbed the waitress the wrong way, but I start every order with the inquiry of "What specials do you have?" And when the waitress tells me nothing, I usually grimace. I don't mean to, sometimes, but it's just something that I do. When she told me that they didn't have any specials, I didn't stray from my usual response, and it set the tone for the rest of our visit. However, the beer was cheap. Regular price for AB products is $2.50, definitely below the norm around town. Therefore, we ordered a couple of Budweisers and went a la carte on the meals. We both ordered three tacos each: beef, chicken, and fish. I was pretty indifferent to the chicken. The beef was slightly better. However, the fried fish taco was delicious. Overall, I didn't find anything special about the food, and it had many of the same characteristics of Don Carlos across the street. If anything, I might have liked Don Carlos just a little bit more. As for the service, I really felt like I might have annoyed the server, and it truly reflected the way she took care of us. Comfort level is a huge part of the dining experience, and I just didn't get a good vibe from her. She took her time getting us the bill and disappeared behind the counter after that, making me wander to the register to pay. After I filled out the credit slip, one of the other workers showed the girl my tip in front of me as if to say, "Hey, this guy isn't a jerk after all!" With so many options for Mexican on Cherokee, I don't see me running back any time soon. Definitely check it out. Just don't for the specials!

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. Hands down. It's fun and easy, a great place to grab some beers and food in a casual environment. I always get tacos, which they do "street taco" style and are best with beef tongue or cabeza. This is where you take your out-of-town food snob friend who tries to say St. Louis doesn't do authentic Mexican. Think again, buddy!

The worst Chile Relleno I ever ate, the predominate flavor was stale grease. A friend had tacos the same night and they were bad also. Not sure I am brave enough to try this place a second time.

As a Californian living in St. Louis, it's been a real struggle to find anything that slightly resembles authentic Mexican food or even authentic Central Mexican food. Taqueria El Bronco is my new FAVORITE - Carne Asada burrito and Posole were incredible. They also had a wonderful mariachi, Pedro, who was friendly and extremely talented. Their complementary salsa was delicious, and I love that they mixed pickled and fresh jalapenos in my burrito :) I'll definitely be back!

Took my sister here who was visiting and had taste for Mexican food. I had not been here but it has been recommended to me many times as 'authentic, delicious, and inexpensive.' I ordered el Bronco - there staple dish - and it did not disappoint. The steak is what made the dish. I was not overly impressed by the rest of the plate, but the marinade they use made the meat on this dish all worth while. Also on the good side was their complimentary chips/salsa appetizer. One was mild and the other had a kick, both were tasty. And so for the 3 star review...I think had I not been to Mission Tacos in the loop prior to said visit, this would be a 4 star joint no matter what. However, 9 out of 10 times when I have taste for Mexican I'll be at Mission and so el Bronco kind of gets the shaft from me in terms of star count. Salud!

Great neighborhood but really unfortunate horchata. Tacos al pastor a little too sweet with piña but salt fixed it. Very inexpensive and a favorite with local. Guitarista at lunch is too much.

DON'T order the chiles rellanos and the tortas were disappointing. The chiles rellanos were soggy, watery, old, bland and just plain disgusting! The torta cubana was not what it was said to be. No steak but some kind of fried meat, a HOT DOG for their "sausage" and what looks like to be tofu..Yuck!!! Al pastor and the rest of the street tacos are what ill be ordering from now on.

Sweet and lively, this is a family place all the way. Cold beer, great prices and real Mexican white cheese. Staff is charming and works hard to please.

Delicious! I haven't ordered anything I didn't enjoy, but I especially loved the tacos, fajitas, and queso dip. The margs are a favorite of mine, and my dad raves about the Micheladas. I would not hesitate to say this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis! This place will not let you down!

There are so many amazing places to dine at if searching for good, authentic Mexican food that it is hard to decide on where to eat. We went for Taqueria this go around because we had yet to dine here. Good choice, my friends. I went with my standard fish & shrimp taco combo, and they were phenomenal. My neighbor went with a chimichanga, and I must say I was a bit envious.....and I don't care too much for chimichangas. The wife rolled with an enchilada plate, which also looked amazing. There were no complaints around the table whatsoever. Everything was dee-licious. Our server was nice - the food was excellent - the price was right. Will definitely tuck this place away in my back pocket for our next (Mexican) food outing on Cherokee!

This is the place to go for authentic Mexican on Cherokee, but they also have some delicious, less traditional offerings. The crispy tacos are amazing! They are like traditional street tacos but with freshly fried, corn tortilla shells. They're the bomb! The tostadas are also quite good. Oh and the cheese dip...You have to try the cheese dip!

Delicious tacos. I usually pick up the al pastor and carne asada, cilantro y onions and do not forget those lime wedges. And who knows, I may even swoop on an ice cold horchata or Mexican coke. Super affordable, low key, and friendly. I take my 10 month old here regularly, although there are few quality places in the Lou that he doesn't frequent. Kid can eat.

There isn't anything that I've ordered that I didn't like, this place is inexpensive, especially for a family of 5!!! The Chicken Enchiladas,Fish Tacos, Chicken Tortas, the different flavors of Jarritos; Limon', Tamarind, Hibiscus, and then the Horchata was great because they help bring out the true flavors of the "AUTHENTIC" foods. I you like "AUTHENTIC MEXICAN" food, then this is the place to go, ENJOY!!!!!!!!

I heard MANY things about this place but we finally went with a few friends and I was very underwhelmed. I'd say Bronco is average for decent mexican in St. Louis but no better. Nobody was impressed, everyone felt like it was good but not special or better than other places. We def. would not make the drive down here from U City again.

The Queso had me screaming for more, Loved it. Fajitas were good, I liked the experience all in all. I found the staff helpful and always asked for refills. Good Mexican choice for a nice night out.

Came here for good Mexican food, and was excited by the great reviews. Unfortunately our experience was not the same. Pros - They had Mexican coke (which was an exchange for horrible Horchata) Complementary chips and green salsa were good. Cons - Service was slow and unresponsive - we asked for a minute to decide on our order, and we despite our best attempts to flag either server down over the next 15 minutes we could not and had to get up and go to the bar to ask to be waited on. Maybe because we were gringos? Red salsa was awful - tasted like a doctored tomato soup. Fish and shrimp tacos did not taste freshly cooked. Horchata was admittedly made from a powder mix and was super sweet. Chiliquiles with green sauce was nothing more than bland corn mush with sour cream on top. Prices were high for the quality of food. $36 for 2 entrees, 2 tacos and 3 non alcoholic drinks. Ridiculous for Mexican food! TV was really loud and very obnoxious. In short, this restaurant must do something right to have so many positive reviews, but sadly we didn't see any of it. We should have tried one of the numerous other restaurants on Cherokee.

The chips and salsa are excellent, the tacos were delicious, and even with a beer I still paid less than 10 dollars. It's so authentic, there's a man playing Spanish songs on guitar at the bar.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
